You will need:
Small paper cup
Green paper
Scissors
Glue
Popsicle stick
Googly eyes
White scrap paper
Pen
Brown paper
1.Cut a strip of green paper and glue around the cup. You can cut slits in the top of the strip to make it look more like grass.
2.Trace around your childs thumb on the brown paper and cut out (this is the groundhog)
3. Glue on googly eyes and draw a nose and mouth with a black pen. Then cut out teeth from a scrap of white paper.
4. Glue your groundhog onto the popsicle stick.
5. Make a slit in the bottom of the cup wide enough for the popsicle stick.
6. Stick the groundhog on the stick through the slit.
7. Now you have a groundhog puppet!
Here is a song we sang with our puppets after we learned the story about Grounhogs Day...
Sung to: "I'm a little teapot"
Here's a little groundhog, furry and brown,
Here's a little groundhog, furry and brown,
He's popping up to look around.
If he sees his shadow, down he'll go.
Then six more weeks of winter - Oh No!!

very cute. My class did this today and they loved it. They were so cute all going around singing the song and popping their groundhog up and down.
